Orlando Radiology Center Treats Patients through Design
Directions in Design integrates architecture and interior design with patient care

ORLANDO, FL. May 2007 – When it comes to medical testing, sometimes it’s the environment that makes the difference in reducing the stress of patients. At least, that’s the central concept St. Louis-based Directions in Design applied to the interior planning and construction of Florida Radiology Imaging’s new Universal Center.

“Yes.  We always plan for comfortable reception, dressing and modality rooms, which house state-of-the-art equipment,” said Jane Ganz, president, Directions in Design.  “But it’s really about putting the patient at ease and making them feel relaxed in what can be an intimidating physical environment.”

Situated off of Highway 4, next to Universal studios, the new center offers more than just a convenient location. Directions in Design has geared the entire facility toward patient comfort, employing a heightened level of interior finish and architecture as a part of the diagnostic process. The 5,220 square-foot facility boasts a contemporary-style interior, using a palette of blues and browns throughout the area.

“We wanted to surround patients in a pleasing environment that is non-clinical,” said Paul Duck, CEO, Florida Radiology Imaging. “Directions in Design used colors, architectural elements, lighting, finish materials and artwork to create a positive patient experience, while reinforcing our company’s mission and vision.”

In addition to intelligent design, the high-tech Universal center also offers the latest in imaging services for patients, including CT scan, MRI, mammography, x-ray, bone density scanning, and two ultrasound rooms.

Founded in 1975, Directions in Design is a full-service interior design and purchasing firm with extensive experience in the health care, residential, commercial, marine, senior housing and hospitality markets.  A WBE certified firm, the company’s project base is built on repeat business and a strong client referral network.  Services range from strategic planning and programming, to schematic design, design development, procurement and installation.
