Gatesworth Extended Care
Directions in Design’s interiors team recently provided interior planning and design services to renovate the Gatesworth Extended Care Building. This facility offers critical care and skilled nursing services to ailing residents. The lobby has new Amtico simulated wood flooring with inlaid border designs, a cherry reception desk with granite top and elegant draperies which flank the desk. A colorful fish tank at the nurse’s station makes this environment more pleasant for families visiting their loved ones as well as for staff and residents. In addition, DID designed a lounge area which houses a flat screen TV above comfortable seating. The entire facility was re-carpeted in a color palette of soothing blues and beiges which features several special round medallions in key areas and borders to accent and define the space. Each resident’s room was also re-carpeted to visually flow into the corridor. The feeling created is that of a first class hotel or hospitality facility.
“Renovating the Extended Care building was of particular importance to us in the Gatesworth project,” Ganz further stated. “We wanted the area to visually reflect the level of dedication we see the Gatesworth staff devote to the residents. They know each person well, and treat everyone with big friendly smiles and a great amount of respect. We wanted the aesthetic quality of the environment to match the level of resident care.”
Families wishing to confer with medical staff on the condition of a resident can meet in the newly renovated conference room in the Extended Care building. The meeting spaces off the dining room now features wood look flooring with inlaid boarders, leaded glass doors and a blue and gold color palette with cherry wood accents. The room seats up to ten people to allow several family and medical team members to participate in the meetings.
Additional renovations to the Gatesworth by DID include upgrades to the two living rooms, activity room, a newly designed beauty salon, and resident’s dining room. In the assisted living building, DID designed a new lounge with a flat screen TV above a new fireplace, comfortable lounge furniture with a baby grand piano as well as new artwork. The shower rooms were renovated with new sconce lighting, wallcovering, art and a corner shelf unit holding colorful towels, plants and accessories to complement the space.
